Rhexodus is a complex sculpture that dynamically communicates multiple layers of meaning and message: Within its metal which is composed of smelted copper, silicon, tin , iron, lead, aluminum and manganese mixed with traces of gold, platinum, and silver ores, lies a sense of subterranean power.

The bronze explodes with the optical impression of innumerable surfaces as the eye is arrested in capturing nuances that seem to condense and refract light. As we stand before the massive installation of Rhexodus, the organic quality of its metal seems like diamond crystal that has abandoned its geometrical plane to warp into earthly elements of rock, water, fire and light. Through months of handwork, Snowden chased and glazed the proprietary historic Fournier Patina into a sculptural surface as reflective as the sheen of a brilliant pearl, drawing the viewer beyond a self-imaging mirror into the platinum depths of its core.

As the sculptor evolved an artistic vision around the geological concept of Rhexistasy, the breakup and re-grouping of the sculpture’s clay foundations seemed to follow the same path as geological processes, allowing emergent structures to arise. The process of building up clay and metal suggested an exodus of larger proportions as sculptural substance took on expanded meaning, becoming redefined as Rhexodus: the inspiration that four stages of explosive energy evident in the sculpture as Rhexistasy were most deeply connected to defining stages of the life of Moses described in the book of Exodus.
